Susan Hadley – Artist in Residence – Modern Dance Technique, Repertory, Music and Choreography
Susan Hadley is the Artist in Residence of the 2016 Dance and Movement Workshop for Dance Educators.
She was a principal dancer with the acclaimed Mark Morris Dance Group for whom she danced numerous original roles in such works as L’Allegro, Dido and Aeneas, and Mythologies. A company member in Senta Driver’s HARRY for four years, she also performed Meredith Monk’s opera Quarry. Kari Jensen – Hip Hop, Contemporary
Kari Jensen, international teacher and choreographer, is an accomplished artist trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and musical theater. She has an M.A. in Dance from Cal State Long Beach and has been an adjunct faculty member at several colleges, including Chapman University, Mt San Antonio College, Santa Ana College and Orange Coast College. For nearly a decade, Kari owned and directed Pulse Dance Troupe, a professional performance company comprised of up-and-coming hip hop dancers focused on artistic growth and positive expression. During that time, Kari also performed and choreographed for Culture Shock Los Angeles and the Madonna Grimes Dance Company. Currently, Kari is the Lead Adjudicator for Next Level Dance Competition which includes traveling nationally teaching and sharing her passion for dance.
Erin Landry – Afro-Caribbean, Latin-Jazz
Erin Landry is a full Professor of Dance at Cypress College in California. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of the Arts, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Irvine. She has performed professionally with the Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO), Lula Washington Dance Theater, and the Bella Lewitzky Dance Company. Ms. Landry was awarded a Merit Scholarship to attend the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center (The Ailey School) in New York and is also a recipient of the SCOPE award for outstanding dance educator of the year. She is the artistic director and choreographer of the “Passion, Grace, & Fire Dance Ensemble”.
Oscar Gonzalez – Ballet, Musical Theater
Oscar Gonzalez was born and raised in Orange County. Oscar began dancing at Anaheim High where he then trained at the Anaheim Ballet School, American Ballet Theater (NYC) and the Joffrey Ballet School (NYC) and has been accepted into the Alvin Ailey certificate program and The Rock school summer intensive. He is formally trained in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern and Contemporary. Gonzalez has been a soloist with the Anaheim Ballet, Festival Ballet, KWDP and was also choosen to be an instructor for the Diavolo technique. Oscar has worked with talented choreographers such as, Jacques Heim, Robert Mahler, Roberta Mathis, Mark Esposito, Sha Newman and Orlando Alexander. Oscar is currently a walk-on-coach for dance at Anaheim High where he teaches and choreographs. Oscar also coaches and choreographs for schools and dance studios all over the world. He was also in Aladdin A Musical Spectacular at the Disney resort. Oscar has performed in professional musical theater productions such as, Hello Dolly, WestSide Story, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, A Chorus Line, Evita and has been a principal in The Glory of Christmas at the Crystal Cathedral. His ballet credits include, Cinderella, Napoli, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, A Midsummer Nights Dream, Nutcracker and Alice. Oscar performed for the grand opening of the King Abdulah University of Science and Technology in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His recent adventure took place in Capetown, South Africa, creating a 2 week dance intensive for students 6-25 years in age. Gonzalez is excited to announce that he is the new Ballet Director at McCoy Rigby Conservatory of the Arts, under the direction of Cathy Rigby. Oscar is currently attending St. Mary’s College to receive his BA in Liberal Arts Education.
Danny Batimana – Hip Hop
Danny V. Batimana is a professional speaker with the Movement Talent Agency (MTA) and the CEO & Founder of Happiness is NOW Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, specializing in motivational presentations and after-school dance crew programs.
This Filipino-American born entertainer and entrepreneur resides in Los Angeles, California. After graduating from Diamond Bar High School, he became one of the hip-hop choreographers for the Los Angeles Laker Girls, Portland Trailblazers, and Los Angeles Clippers Spirit, respectively. At the same time he studied business management at Cal State University, Fullerton; his dual career in the arts and business began to flourish and led him to create Team Millennia, a competitive hip-hop dance team based out of Orange County.
By the age of 22, he had choreographed, produced, and directed various dance shows and projects, which led him to pursue an entertainment career in his homeland of the Philippines. After one year, he decided to return to California and obtain a secondary teaching credential in business, mathematics, and dance at Cal State University, Fullerton. This led him to teach mathematics and leadership for several years at West Covina high school and eventually developing the Regional Occupational Program (ROP) “professional dance” program at Western high school.
While teaching, he was also the owner of the Team Millennia Dance Studio, director of Team Millennia (America’s Best Dance Crew season 2 & 3), TM Juniors, and TM Tots; while producing the Bridge Dance Competitions (formerly Prelude) and Summer Intensive Dance Camps & Showcases.
In 2010, he became the manager of the Poreotics Dance Crew (America’s Best Dance Crew Season 5 champions), traveling the world and gaining experiences, which would eventually lead to his desire to ‘change the world’ through a happiness youth movement called “Happiness is NOW.’
Jaleea Price – Teaching Dance: Choreography, Analysis, World Dance research
Jaleea Price is a dance educator at ‘International School Bangkok’ (ISB) teaching the IB Dance and other programs in Grades 6 – 12. She has an MA from Cal. State – Long Beach, loves multi-arts collaborations, and enjoys teaching Technical Theater, IB Film, and PE.
Previously, she was fortunate enough to work at Taipei American School under the expert guidance of program director, Deborah Flemming. Jaleea is currently an examiner and workshop leader for the IB organization and supports other dance/movement organizations such as CAPHERD, NDEO, IADMS, and World Dance Alliance.
Trisha Hanada-Rogers – Modern Progressions, Ballet for Modern Dancers
Trisha Hanada-Rogers is full Professor and Department Chair of Dance at MiraCosta College. She holds her MFA in Dance from UC Irvine and her BA in Dance from UC Santa Barbara. She has performed, choreographed, and taught in a variety of dance genres, including ballet, modern, jazz, ballroom, and world dance. Professional credits include Equity principal roles in “A Chorus Line” and “The King & I,” and performances with professional dance companies in New York and Los Angeles, including Lula Washington LA Contemporary Dance Theater and Rod Rodgers Dance Ensemble. She trained in New York at the schools of Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham, performed with Royal Ballet of Santa Barbara, and studied extensively with Donald McKayle. She has presented workshops at regional, national, and international dance conferences, specializing in classical, contemporary, and world dance styles.
Christine Baltes – Gryokinesis, Classical Jazz
Christine Baltes, a master teacher, specializing in jazz dance is recognized as a leader in technique, and one who doesn’t just “give” class but truly “teaches”. Ms. Baltes possesses a California Teaching credential in dance and a certification in Pilates. She is a Gyrotonic© and Gyrokinesis® pre-trainer, and certified in the Pulley Tower, Leg Extension Unit, Jump Stretch Board and Archway of the GYROTONIC® EXPANSION SYSTEM. She has been involved in dance for most of her life, & in the mind body fitness industry since 1992.
Her teaching career spans over 40 years with faculty positions that include the University of California, Irvine, Chapman University, California State University Long Beach, Orange Coast College, Irvine Valley College, Santa Ana College, Academy of Performing Arts High School and many more.
This very passionate individual has an abundance of experience and knowledge in the functions of the body. She brings a hands-on approach that imparts this knowledge, care, passion and the understanding of the body to all who work with her. Clients from all backgrounds benefit from Christine’s teachings. This devoted, passionate and energetic professional is bound to make a difference in your body, mind and overall improvement of movement.
Christine’s Studio, is located in the South Coast Metro area and offers private, semi & group sessions. She offers specific training for dancers and classes in the O.C. & Long Beach area on the Pulley Tower that incorporates a wide variety of creative and choreographic dance styles, dance repertoire in conjunction with the Gyrotonic® repertoire and principles.
Sara Dickman – Tap
Sara Dickman was born and raised in San Diego where she began dancing as a child. She continued her dance training at the University of California San Diego where she earned a BA in Dance, her teaching credential and Masters in Education. She has taught dance for 13 years at Creative, Performing, Media Arts Magnet Middle School in San Diego where she has built a dance program focusing on tap, jazz, and ballet serving over 475 students each year! Sara is also a member of California Rhythm Project where she has been a company member since 2012 performing throughout San Diego including the San Diego International Fringe Festival, The Vine Theater’s summer series, and other local events. Sara loves to share her passion for dance with others.
Cami Bettencourt & Katie Caruso – Dance Through the Common Core
Cami Bettencourt attended Cal State University, Sacramento and received her BA in Theatre Arts, Dance. She has been teaching and choreographing since 2002 and is currently finishing her 8th year at Oakmont High School in Roseville, California. Prior to teaching at Oakmont high School, Cami also taught and created dance company’s at Whitney High School and Pleasant Grove High School. In her early years she taught and directed the dance company’s at Florin High School and Elk Grove High School.
Cami currently is a leader not only at her school where she serves as the Performing Arts department chair, Dance Program Director, Vikings Dance Coach and the IB Dance teacher but she is also a leader in CAHPERD, serving as vice president of the dance division in 2016.
When she’s not teaching her kids or planning and directing her next show, you can find Cami at home with her wife Shannon and her kids, Jacee and Charli, Gracie and Maxwell.
Deidre Cavazzi – Yoga
Deidre Cavazzi is the dance department chair at Saddleback College, where she also co-directs the Yoga Teacher Training program. She received her M.F.A. in Dance and her teaching credential from UC Irvine, and her yoga certification from the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara. She has also completed additional yoga training at Duke Integrative Medicine in North Carolina. Deidre is the artistic director and choreographer for ArchiTexture Dance Company, a site-specific dance theatre company based in Orange County, and she often invites her students to be part of her work outside of the college. She is passionate about collaborative projects that bring the arts into dialogue with other academic disciplines, and has mounted several full-length interdisciplinary productions at Saddleback College involving science, math and humanities departments. This coming fall, she will be staging an evening of site-specific performance in the college’s three-story library in celebration of Banned Books Week.
Mike Cali – Open Session
Originally from New York, Mike Cali is currently teaching IB dance at Jakarta Intercultural School in Jakarta, Indonesia. He received his BFA in Musical Theatre and Dance from the State University of New York, College at Fredonia. Before starting his teaching career, Mike enjoyed a professional career on stage touring with various Broadway shows including George Gershwin’s Crazy For You, and Rodger and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! He has performed at a number of regional theatres throughout the United States with such shows as 42nd Street and A Chorus Line. Prior to teaching in Jakarta, Mike taught Theatre and Dance to students of all ages in Switzerland, Korea and Italy.
Cyndi Hermann – Intermediate Jazz
Cyndi currently teachers at Fullerton High School and is a freelance choreographer. She received her BA and MA in Dance from California State University Long Beach and holds a Physical Education credential from California State University Fullerton. She loves teaching and exposing her students to the many faces of dance. She feels extremely honored to be here at Dance and Movement and share her knowledge with her colleagues.
