Lorelei Bayne and Randee Paufve

She has created original works since 1991 and has been presented throughout New York City and nationally in venues such as DanceNOW/ NYC Festival, Dumbo Dance Festival/ NYC, Women Center Stage Festival/ NYC, Florida Dance Festival, Tampa Museum of Art, Crocker Art Museum, and the San Francisco Fringe Festival. From 2007-2010, she was Co-Artistic Director of the acclaimed Sacramento-based, Dangerous Lorraines Dance Theater with dance artist Melissa Wynn.

Lorelei began dancing in Tampa, at the University of South Florida with William Hug, Lynne Wimmer, Gretchen Warren, Sandra Robinson, and Gary Lund, where she earned a BA in Dance. She then taught and performed on the East Coast with Philadelphia-based, Melanie Stewart Dance Theatre and Karen Bamonte Danceworks, and during her 14 years of professional work based in New York City, she performed with Elizabeth Streb, Clarinda MacLow/ cml performance group, FREEFALL/NYC, and many independent dance makers. She has had the pleasure of performing in the works of 20th century dance notables Jose Limon, Mark Morris, Ann Reinking, May O'Donnell, and Mark Dendy. She has an MFA in Dance from New York University's, Tisch School of the Arts where she studied with Deborah Jowitt, Gus Solomons Jr., Phyllis Lamhut, Linda Tarnay, Kathy Grant, and Andy Tierstein.

Lorelei BayneLorelei's broad experience in the dance field includes work as a teaching artist in the New York City public schools, and serving on faculty at James Madison University, Western Connecticut State University, and the University of South Florida. She has also taught at CSU Summer Arts, Capitol City Ballet Studio, UC Davis, Louisiana's Twin City Ballet, Rowan University, Hofstra University, Sal Anthony's Movement Salon, St. Joseph's College, KidAction/Streb at St. Mark's Church, Integral Yoga Institute/NYC, among others. Her work has been performed in the Mid-Atlantic American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA) by the University of Vermont and has gone to the Southwest ACDFA Gala for Sacramento State University. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor and the Dance Coordinator at CSU, Sacramento. The recipient of many grants and awards, Ms. Bayne's primary area of inquiry is composition, collaboration, and dance-driven new performance forms that seek to touch audiences and broaden exposure of the art of dance.

Randee Paufve Randee Paufve is a San Francisco Bay area based dancer, choreographer, and movement educator with extensive commissioning, teaching and performing credits on both coasts.  Randee is the Artistic Director of the acclaimed Paufve Dance Company, now in its 10th year:  “…Precise and full-bodied…Ms. Paufve’s choreography does not fit any of the stereotypes about laid-back California or hyper New York dance” (Jennifer Dunning, New York Times).  A four-time Izzy Nominee (the prestigious west coast Isadora Duncan Dance Award), and recipient of numerous grants, Randee has also been awarded multiple choreography residencies at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program and Shawl-Anderson Dance Center in California; the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming; and the Red Cinder Creativity Center in Hawaii.  Paufve Dance has been presented in the bay area by Summerfest/Dance, West Wave Dance Festival, Dancer’s Group Studio Theater, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Theater Artaud, ODC Theater and UC Berkeley; by MAX10 in Los Angeles; in Portland, by Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, Lewis and Clark College and Conduit Theater, and by Seattle’s On the Boards.  Paufve Dance was the first dance company to be produced by UC Davis’ Dancing on the Edge series, with inaugural performances at the Mondavi Performing Arts Center.  PD has toured nationally with multiple performances produced by Joyce Soho Theater in Manhattan, Spoke the Hub in Brooklyn, The Dance Complex, in Boston, Elmira College in New York State and by the Phantom Theater in Vermont.  Randee’s commissioned works for college and university dance companies have been continually selected for performance at American College Dance Festivals; in 2003, her work for the Saint Mary’s College Dance Company was selected for the ACDF Gala Performances.

A popular bay area teacher, Randee has taught workshops and master classes for organizations including SF Dancer’s Group, Axis Dance and Portland Institute for Contemporary Art.  Randee has also trained professional dancers for over a decade through her dance classes at Shawl-Anderson Dance Center in Berkeley.  Randee has served on the dance faculties of UC Davis, Reed College, Lewis and Clark College, University of San Francisco, Cal State East Bay, and Saint Mary’s College and has run high school dance programs at the Athenian School and Marin Academy.  She has also worked as Artist in Residence at Berkeley High School, the College Preparatory school in Oakland, and the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics in Washington State.  Randee has continually served bay area youth by heading programs ranging from Shawl-Anderson Youth Ensemble, a rigorous pre-professional teen modern dance company, to volunteer work teaching dance and acrobatics in after-school programs for  kids in downtown Oakland.  Randee was also the brainchild and  co-producer of the First Annual Bay Area High School Mini Dance Festival, now in its third year and going strong.

Randee is originally from rural upstate New York, and received her early dance training and artistic inspiration from Robert Christopher, Helene Yelverton, Saga Ambegaokar, Susanna Newman, Santo Giglio, Jim Payton, and the backwoods of the Susquehanna River Region.  She graduated from Elmira College, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cross-Cultural Performing Arts (a self-designed major).  She spent her Junior year in India, studying Tamil, Bharata Natyam and folk dance, and Karnatic music.  Randee holds a Master of Arts degree in Dance choreography and performance from the State University of New York, Brockport and a Master of Fine Arts degree in dramatic arts from the University of California, Davis.  She is also a certified pilates trainer.  Randee is currently an Assistant Professor of Dance at CSU, Sacramento, and is a faculty member at Shawl-Anderson Dance Center in Berkeley.

Karen ToonKaren Toon
Master tapper Karen Toon’s training began with Tap great Casey Thompson who studied with Mr. Bill Robinson.  In 1984, Ms. Toon began dancing with Brenda Bufalino in New York City.  She has continued to study with Brenda at workshops and intensives across the country.  Karen has also studied with many other tap masters, including Gregory Hines (with whom she had the privilege to share the stage), Savion Glover, Dianne Walker and Jason Samuels-Smith.  Her career includes a stint as a “Kit Kat girl” in Cabaret, as well as performing in West Side Story, The Wiz and numerous musical revues.  She taught Tap at Step 1 Sacramento Dance Academy for 20 years and has been adjunct faculty at CSU, Sacramento since 2006.  Ms. Toon holds a B.A. in Physical Education from U.C. Davis where she competed on the women’s gymnastics team.  At this stage in her life, Karen particularly loves to share her passion for TAP!

 

Indah BoyleIndah Boyle grew up traveling with her family and lived in many different places.  She has lived in a number of states, as well as Taiwan, Indonesia and Spain.  She began her modern dance training at Taipei American School with Deborah Flemming from 2001-2004.  She received a B.F.A. in Dance from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase College in 2008.  Since graduating from Purchase, Indah has showcased choreography as an emerging artist in New York City at Dance New Amsterdam, American Dance Guild Festival, Movement Research at Dance Theater Workshop, the Hatch Series, Spoke the Hub and Dixon Place.

Based in New York and Connecticut, Indah currently teaches Ballet to ages 2-5 and Modern for teenagers.  Indah has traveled to Taiwan numerous times to teach modern dance and choreography for students at Taipei American School.  She was invited as a guest artist to the annual Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asia Schools (IASAS) Cultural Convention in March 2010, hosted at Taipei American School.  Indah was invited back to the Taipei American School to teach dance and coach after school dance groups from November 2010-March 2011.

 

Ruth RosenbergRuth Rosenberg directed her Sacramento-based Ruth Rosenberg Dance Ensemble from 1990-2001. She was named one of Sacramento’s 100 Most Interesting People in 2001, received a Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission Fellowship in 1997, and was a recipient of numerous SMAC New Works choreography grants. Ruth also performed with Sacramento Ballet, Capitol City Ballet and Ed Mock & Dancers of San Francisco. In 2010, her groundbreaking dance “Redemption Value” was revived by the Natomas Charter School’s Blackrock Dance Company.

Ruth currently works as the Artist Engagement Coordinator for the Mondavi Center, UC Davis, overseeing residencies by touring artists, as well as pre-performance talks and post performance Q&As with the artists. There, she has also been involved in organizing residencies by ABT II, the Merce Cunningham and Limon dance companies and, most recently, was instrumental in launching Dance for Parkinson’s classes in Davis, a partnership with Pamela Trokanski Dance Theater in affiliation with the Mark Morris Dance Group that offers free weekly dance classes for people with Parkinson’s Disease.

 

Deborah FlemmingDeborah Flemming Deb's eclectic dance journey started at age 3. Her training included competitive highland (Scottish) dance, ballet with Alberta Ballet company, modern dance, a little jazz, and a tiny bit of tap. Deb spent a number of years touring throughout Canada with the Alberta Folk Arts Dance Company, back when there was significant funding for the arts and multiculturalism. Deb has been lucky enough to be able to blend her work as a choreographer and performer with her career in international education. She has taught in international schools in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and currently in Taiwan. She is one of the original 10 committee members, who developed the dance course for the International Baccalaureate Organization. Deb is passionate about dance education and the positive changes it can make in a student's life. Her favorite part of teaching is encouraging her students to develop their unique artistic voices through improvisation and composition.

 

Wahida SharmanWahida Sharman brings with her a strong foundation in biomechanics and anatomy from her 22 years experience as an Occupational Therapist and a movement specialist. She is certified in GYROTONIC®, GYROKINESIS®, Pilates, and currently training in the Franklin Method. She provides a solid knowledge base in the therapeutic application of movement for healing. She has trained with multiple Gyrotonic master trainers but most of her advanced training has been with Debra Rose of San Francisco GYROTONIC® associated with Lines Ballet. She enjoys working with elite movers and athletes using GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® because these systems facilitate movement that is biomechanically correct and energetically connected, creating a powerful and graceful body. She has taught at the Sacramento Ballet Dance School, LINES/Dominican BFA, and Alonzo King's LINES Ballet School. Ms. Sharman has been actively involved with Sacramento Ballet since 2006. Most recently she completed her tenure as the President of the Sacramento Ballet Board of Directors and continues to serve as a board member. Ms. Sharman is the owner of EPY Center and GYROTONIC® Sacramento.

 

Randy SolorioRandy Solorio is a dance instructor and gymnastics coach at Sacramento State. He holds a bachelors degree of science in exercise science and a master's in sports performance from Sacramento State. Randy has been involved in dance and theater in the Sacramento area for the past 30 years performing in summer stock productions and local community theater. He also toured with "Show Your Spirit" and was in Jim Henson's "The Muppet Show on Tour". His ballroom background comes from his parents, who met while teaching at Arthur Murrays dance studio. Dance has been a large part of his life since childhood. Randy is always excited about the opportunity to share music and movement with those who would like to learn to dance.

 

Kelli LeightonKelli Leighton started her dancing career at the Tueller School of Dance in Utah. She won top honors at numerous competitions, including a feature on the Today Show, and was awarded numerous dance training scholarships for schools all over the US, including the prestigious Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles.

At Utah State University, Kelli was a member of the Sunburst Performing Company and had the opportunity to choreograph in addition to performing. She later moved to Los Angeles and became a member of the Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA, working in Film, Television and Industrials. Kelli has studied under such greats as Doug Varone, Abby Fiat (University of Utah), Jan Erkert (University of Illinois), Mia Michaels, Dwana Smallwood (Alvin Ailey), Ana Marie Forsythe, Ronald K. Brown, Carla Maxwell (Jose Limon) among others.

In addition to being the full-time director of CORE, Kelli choreographs for soloists, competition teams, as well as dance companies in Utah, California, and Idaho. Her choreography has garnered awards at multiple competitions and national conventions, and she received the Dance Educator of the Year Award for the Sacramento region for 2010-2011. She is on faculty at Hawkins School of Performing Arts in Folsom, and is the Artistic Director of iMPACT, the studio's non-profit youth contemporary dance company. She is also on faculty at Step I Dance and Fitness in Sacramento, where she heads the jazz competition teams.

After seeing her inspiring choreography at its grand reopening, the Crocker Art Museum invited Kelli to create the museum's first commissioned dance piece, inspired by the art of Gottfried Helnwein. CORE performed the world premiere of "Slient Noise" at the Crocker Art Museum in March 2011 to a sold out audience.

Kelli finds inspiration in the human experience and in the bonds that people form through movement. Her vision for CORE is to promote a healthy professional environment where dancers of all experiences come together to inspire each other and enrich their surrounding community. Her unique athletic contemporary style along with a contagious passion and energy for dance has made her one of the most sought after master teachers and choreographers.

 

Stephanie HopperStephanie Hopper has been dancing since the age of 13. She has been a part of T.R. Smedberg's Dance 8 classes and various church plays which incorporated singing and dancing. In high school she danced for Universal Rhythm under the direction of Becky Hobgood and Debi Roberts. She was trained in various styles such as jazz, contemporary, cultural, tap, hip-hop, and much more.

Stephanie is now the Assistant Director to a local Sacramento Hip-Hop Dance Company called Press P.L.A.Y. Her focus and passion has been hip-hop since she began dancing and much of her influences come from Janet Jackson, Micheal Jackson, and many others. Stephanie's hope is to inspire others to move freely and go "FULL OUT" in dance and in life.

 

Raychel PriceRaychel Price
Raychel is a recent gradute from CSUSB who also studied at Duke University and Chaffey college. She has studied with various choreographers and artist all around California.Now a Hip-Hop/Funk teacher at Crafton Hills College and a Hip-Hop /Lyrical teacher at Cope middle school.Her love and passion for dance grows stronger as days go by.She loves everything about movenment,memory,and the strength of Dance. Raychel keeps her happiness by playing every role in the book : Hip Hop, Jazz,Ballet,Lyrical, Modern, Contemporary,Jazz Funk and more. She is unstoppable and strives for the best ,she never wants to stop learning. Her name is Raychel Price but her friends call her Hummingbird because she never stops!

 

Keith TurkKeith Turk has been performing since the age of 7 yrs old! Working with the Prescott Circus of Oakland Ca, and a part of the Ringling Brothers Circus. Keith has worked with Chris Brown, Missy Eliott, Ciara, Busta Rhymes and auditioned for Beyones "I Am Tour". He will be featured in a popular reality series this May.

Keith has been featured in commercials, videos, and loads more!!! He's currently signed with the Los Angeles dance agency DDO. Keith has ran many competitive teams, placing Top 1st awards and Category winners at all of the major competitive events! They are very well known for their high energy, eye catching, and captivating dance styles!

 

Ed BrazoEd Brazo
After maintaining a professional career for over 25 years, Ed joined the theatre/dance faculty at California State University-Sacramento in 2002 as the head of the new musical theatre curriculum. He teaches tap, jazz, and acting technique for musical theatre and has directed CABARET, CRAZY FOR YOU, A CHORUS LINE, COMPANY, How To Succeed, Bat Boy, Nunsense and 42nd STREET !
As a proud member of Actor's Equity Association and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers since 1975, Ed performed on Broadway in TAKE ME ALONG and toured nationally with Angela Lansbury in GYPSY, playing over 10 different roles in three years.
Ed has also been an annual guest director/choreographer/ performer at Tulane University, University of North Texas, Granbury Opera House, Cortland Repertory Theatre and a featured musical theatre workshop artist at the Southeastern Theatre Conference and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival
 In 1995, Ed was one of five teachers chosen to tour Australia on a Rotary sponsored “Arts in Education" teaching exchange program.
Sacramento credits include directing and choreographing THE MUSIC MAN at Garbeau 's Dinner Theatre, A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Sacramento Theatre Company and performing the roles of Eugene Fodor in CRAZY FOR YOU ,Rudolph in HELLO, DOLLY!, Lewis Morris in 1776, Franz in THE SOUND OF MUSIC and Cinderella's Father in Into The Woods at Sacramento Music Circus.

 

Beatriz Godinez-MunizBeatriz Godinez-Muniz
Dancer, Choreographer, Singer, Percussionist
Born and raised in Oakland, she has been studying Afro-Cuban based music and dance for over 25 years. She has had the honor of studying under many masters of Afro-Cuban Dance including: Judith Justise; Roberto Borrel; Jose Francisco Barroso, Teresita Dome Perez; Susana Arenas Pedroso; as well as members of the National Folklore Dance Troupe and Afro-Cuban de Matanzas. She has sung and danced with various performance groups including, "Ojobo Ire," an Afro-Cuban & Afro-Brazilian Folklore Troupe, "Bloco de Amigos," and Afro-Brazilian troupe, Francisco Aguabella's Afro-Cuban folklore group, the Bay Area based Afro-Cuban Son group, "Conjunto Cespedes," "Roberto Borrell y su Kubata," and most recently singing background vocals with the great Cuban Akpuon singer, Lazaro Ros. Beatriz is currently teaching at Sacramento Cultural Arts Center, Sacramento, CA. And is a guest instructor at CSU Sacramento in the African-Carribean Dance Class.

 

Ana FrenesAna Frenes
Ana received a BA in Dance from University of the Pacific and Cal State Long Beach. She received an MA in Arts Education from CSU Sacramento. She completed a Single Subject Credential in Physical Education from UOP. Ana has studied Modern Dance extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles. She has instructed dance and choreographed for the University of the Pacific Dance Department, Private Industry Theatre Project, San Joaquin Delta College Dance department, CSU East bay faculty concerts, the Central Valley Winter guard Circuit and Stockton Unified School District Magnets Arts Programs. Ana was nominated for the DeWar's Young Artist award and has received a Willy award from Stockton Civic Theatre for choreography. She is presently the director of dance at Franklin High School. She has been a member of New Dance Company in Stockton since 1998 as a performer, choreographer and Co-Artistic Director. She was a Co-Director for the San Joaquin ValleyDance Festivals 2007 thru 2011 and a presenter at the 2009 National Dance Educators Association in Mobile, Alabama. She is a 2010 recipient of the Stockton Arts Commission Outstanding Achievement in Dance award. Ana has been studying Yoga for the past 10 years and implementing it into her high school curriculum for five years. She has completed a certification in Yoga Teacher Training with Dorothy Sturtevant. She will begin teaching yoga in Groveland, Pine Crest and Pace studio in Stockton.
